Welcome / Bienvenidos

I'm Alejandra. I love painting and that is why I decided to create this website to make my art public and accessible to everyone. I graduated from CSU Monterey Bay earning a B.A. in the Integrated Studies Special Program. My focus was Visual Arts and History of the Americas. I have also applied to the Counselor Education program at San Jose State, and hopefully I'll get in.

The main objective of this web space is to display my art works, (paintings) and some of the pieces that are still in progress. I'm also a mother of a beautiful 3 year old daughter who has become my greatest inspiration and my model as well.

I am very interested in Chicana Art, and that is why I chose that to be my webstie title, because I am Chicana and I'm also an artist that wants to create beautiful art for a social/environmental purpose of educating, raising awareness and creating change, not just to decorate. I am also very proud of my Purepecha heritage. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you like it.

Enjoy!

Mi Papa Nacho!

I went to visit him today with Quetzalli. Cada que voy siento feo y me da tristesa verlo asi, como un bebe grandote. Mi tia carmen y mi tio poncho estaban ahi con el cambiandole el panal.

Celeste no estaba muy agusto, she just wanted me to hold her. My grandpa has altzhaimer's and does't speak anymore. Yo le hablaba y le placticaba while I rubbed his forehead but he only looked at me with a very intense but at the same time vague look.

Peace....Paz!

Portrait Painting at affordable prices!

I want to start painting more, to get better at it, of course. I've been always interested in painting portraits of people and I now want to advertise myself to paint portraits at cheap prices just so that I can buy more paint and brushes. Stephanie, a friend of us actually gave me the idea, and I thought it was great. I plan to later expand my website for a specific page on that idea of painting portraits.

People could send me a photograph and I'll return them a nice painting of their photograph along with the photograph they orginally gave me. I'm excited, and I hope it works.

So, the first portrait will probably be a portrait of her, but for free of course. I'll probably put it on the mail for her becuase she is in the east coast.

Well, I hope people are interested and email me about this new painting job.

My current commissioned art work! The Arias' painting

I'm currently working in the piece below. I just got started a few days ago. Actually Dr. Armando Arias, my major advisor from the Integrated Studies department at CSU Monterey Bay, hired me to make a replica of a painting he really likes that is located in Los Cabos, (Baja) in a restaurant/bar. I don't really know the name of the artist that created the original piece, but I plan to find out so that I can site my work becuase I don't want to be seen as if I'm stealing someone else's work without even acknowledgment or permission. I will be making some changes though, so it won't be exactly the same.

this new painting will basically be a portrait of his wife Patricia. I also will make it a little more like my style so it won't be identical and it wont have any blue either and some of the designs will change to chiles.
I just got started so I still have a lot to do. I plan to post images of the work in progress to keep track of how long it takes me to complete it and how fast I advance. It's being a tough summer though becuase I'm being a full time mom, I'm also a full time summer student taking an online course on health and wellness, and a Chicano literature course. I'm also staring to swimm and I take Celeste to swimming lessons, so my schedule is a little busy.... and Agu will soon start working as a teacher with the migrant program so he won't be much around to help me with celeste, so I really need to work.

I also did a quick sketch of Patricia, Dr. Arias' wife. She is very pretty and looks very young too. I just wanted to practice sketching her face, but when it comes to painting her, I will really take my time so that it really looks like her.
I'm very happy I'm making this painting although there is all this pressure becuase I'm being hired and paid for, and the deadlines, but I will try my best. I'm excited! =0)

Santa Cruz...

Today we went to the Santa Cruz beach board walk. We actually celebrated Father's day last weekend becuase I... we messed up with the dates. We had a lot of fun, specially celeste who go in the water and played a lot with the sand, and even got into the big rides with Agustin. I'm afraid of heights, so I didn't join them.

Tomorrow I will continue with my new exercise program for my HWI 260 health and wellness class, that I need to gradutate. I will start swimming in the mornings. I hope it's not so hard to wake up early and not that cold!
I will only swimm for about 35-60 minutes though...if I can!

Celeste tambien ya ha comenzado su lecciones de natacion. She loves being in the water, and now wants to be in the pool all by herself.... she now feels confident in the water... which is great! es un nina muy valiente!
