Welcome / Bienvenidos

I'm Alejandra. I love painting and that is why I decided to create this website to make my art public and accessible to everyone. I graduated from CSU Monterey Bay earning a B.A. in the Integrated Studies Special Program. My focus was Visual Arts and History of the Americas. I have also applied to the Counselor Education program at San Jose State, and hopefully I'll get in.

The main objective of this web space is to display my art works, (paintings) and some of the pieces that are still in progress. I'm also a mother of a beautiful 3 year old daughter who has become my greatest inspiration and my model as well.

I am very interested in Chicana Art, and that is why I chose that to be my webstie title, because I am Chicana and I'm also an artist that wants to create beautiful art for a social/environmental purpose of educating, raising awareness and creating change, not just to decorate. I am also very proud of my Purepecha heritage. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you like it.

Enjoy!

One day community mural on Soledad St. Salinas

One day community mural

This is the link to see the photographs of the work we did on Saturday April 30th from 9-2pm at Soledad St in salinas "China town." This is a very poor area where a lot of homeless people hang out and where Dorothy's Kitchen, an organization, works providing meals to people. Them together with csumb students and professors as well as other organizations "hijos del sol" us, and volunteers organized this event today to make this area look prettier. There are a lot of plans to improve the conditions in this area providing emergency housing to homeless families, rehabilitation programs, etc. It's really cool to see that there is people who care and want to make this area look nice and help those that need, ending homelessness, hunger, etc. I'm very proud and happy that I was called by Jose and these people to direct this one day mural painting, it's not really a mural, we had no sketches so we just worked with what ever paint we had and resources we had. i think we all did great, knowing that it's something that was created in a few hours with no real planning. Since I was the one in charge of directing this and I learned a lot from this experience. The ideal plan is to create a real mural in the whole wall in the future, but for that we need about 10 grant. well, I think that it's great to plan these type of things and i love the fact that agustin, and even my tete were part of this. they support me all the time. I was impressed that celeste worked with us painting the walls for all those hours. She really worked and did great and she is only 3 years old. She loves painting and getting messy. I love painting and doing art. La Union Hace La Fuerza!
Peace!
