Welcome / Bienvenidos

I'm Alejandra. I love painting and that is why I decided to create this website to make my art public and accessible to everyone. I graduated from CSU Monterey Bay earning a B.A. in the Integrated Studies Special Program. My focus was Visual Arts and History of the Americas. I have also applied to the Counselor Education program at San Jose State, and hopefully I'll get in.

The main objective of this web space is to display my art works, (paintings) and some of the pieces that are still in progress. I'm also a mother of a beautiful 3 year old daughter who has become my greatest inspiration and my model as well.

I am very interested in Chicana Art, and that is why I chose that to be my webstie title, because I am Chicana and I'm also an artist that wants to create beautiful art for a social/environmental purpose of educating, raising awareness and creating change, not just to decorate. I am also very proud of my Purepecha heritage. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you like it.

Enjoy!

Paintings I gave away as gifts to 2 wonderful mujeres today 5 de mayo!

I gave this painting as a gift to Ms. Elia Trujillo. She is a 3rd grade teacher at barding elementary. she was my master teacher when I worked for the mini corps program in 2003. She was great to me and I learned a bunch from her as well. She was so nice to write a letter of recommendation for me when I was applying to San jose state. thanks to her cooperation I put all my documentation together on time and got in. I got accepted and will start in the fall 2005.

I gave this painting to ms. Angelica Simons. She teaches at Alisal High and was never my teacher becuase I never took her spanish class but she was my club advisor in Club cultural. She was so cool in this club. She took us camping to beautiful places, she tooks us to San francisco to different museums, and so on. She has a house in Baja, and so I'm pretty sure that she will hang this painting of Cabos San lucas somewhere in that house. She also wrote a letter of recommendation for me and thanks to that and their wonderful words about me, I got in!

This is Mujer Montana. I painted this when I was still in High School. It's the smallest painting I've ever done. It's very small. Agustin likes it a lot and even wrote a poem inspired by it. It's now hanging in my house, agu said not to give it away. It's one of his favorites. I love him so much. he'll be graduating from his M.A. next friday the 13th of May at 12:30 in Berkeley. Of course I'll be there. that same day I have my Artist reception at the Seaside City Hall, where we have a show for this month with Jose Ortiz, and other hijos del sol artists.

Tete y yo on my 22nd birthday 04/20/05

These are two pictures of my beautiful tete and myself on the 17th actually 3 days before my real birthday. We went to Toritos restaurant in Monterey, it was crowded but we enjoyed it. I was really sick with the cold but still decided to go becuase my parents and Agu wanted to take me. I love chiles reyenos, its my favorite dish and that's obviously what i ordered. The following weekend we had a get together at home with our friends, I made chicken and vegetarian enchiladas, mole and bought some salads. we had fun! I'm 22 now!

"Hi Alejandra,

My name is Amalia I am a Mexicana who grew up in Oakland California. I have seen your paintings at your galleria website and think they are beautiful.
The first painting I saw was Celeste Quetzalli, the art was in a Hispanic Heritage Calendar distributed by Safeway. My sobrina had the calendar in her room and I fell in love with that particular painting, I commented to my sister that the little girl in the painting look like my daughter, My sister responded that the little girl looked more like me when I was a little girl. At the time I did not know she was your daughter, I thought Celeste Quetzalli was the name of the artist. I tried looking up the painting by her name and after several tries I was able to find your website. I tried your contact link and was not successful. I found your resume and took your e-mail address from that. My question is how do I purchase a copy of your painting? Please advise. I look foward to your respond.
Having 2 daughters and a son, I like to expose them to art that represent our cultura.

Thank you for being a positive role model for our future chicanas.

Sincerely,
Amalia Alcala"

I got this awesome email from Amalia Alcala. It's the first time someone emails me about my work. It makes me feel to great to know that there is people out there who care about art. I hope I get to meet her soon and maybe I can paint her daughters if she wants me to. These type of comments and people is what motivates me and energizes me to create Arte. I love painting, I love colors, I love art!
