Chicana Art by Alejandra

Welcome / Bienvenidos

I'm Alejandra. I love painting and that is why I decided to create this website to make my art public and accessible to everyone. I graduated from CSU Monterey Bay earning a B.A. in the Integrated Studies Special Program. My focus was Visual Arts and History of the Americas. I have also applied to the Counselor Education program at San Jose State, and hopefully I'll get in.

The main objective of this web space is to display my art works, (paintings) and some of the pieces that are still in progress. I'm also a mother of a beautiful 3 year old daughter who has become my greatest inspiration and my model as well.

I am very interested in Chicana Art, and that is why I chose that to be my webstie title, because I am Chicana and I'm also an artist that wants to create beautiful art for a social/environmental purpose of educating, raising awareness and creating change, not just to decorate. I am also very proud of my Purepecha heritage. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you like it.

Enjoy!

The Sophomore class at Great America-2007

We took the sophomores to Great America as an end of the year field trip. We had lots of fun, although I don't really like getting on the rides/roller coasters. In the first picture I am with Ms. Felipe (English teacher) and Ms. Lalonde (Biology teacher). They are both great women. Ms. Lalonde has been very supportive her classroom is also in the quad area near mine so we had more opportunity to talk and she was always very supportive. In the second image I am with my 15 kids that I was responsible for, they are so funny!

LCPA's First Art Exhibit & Silent Auction --2007

We had our very first art exhibit and silent auction at LCPA. This is something that i had thought about since i started working here. I was really looking forward to this, and eventhough not all of my students participated becuase they weren't finished with their art pieces, we had over 29 art pieces sold, and we raised almost$500.00, incredible! I was so proud of my kids!
The money went directly to the kids and I'm really looking forward to doing something like this but better next year and use that money to take the kids on a field trip.

El Club the Arte/ The Art Club @ LCPA 2007

This is the Art club that we started this year at LCPA. It turned out to be an all girls club, which seemed very interesting to me. The girls were great this year and we took this picture for the yearbook. Hope you all like it!

Portrait of Celeste Quetzalli, 5 years old!

This is a portrait Celeste that i finished this weekend. My 10th grade art students are currently working on Self Portraits and I decided to do this to show them an example. Celeste was very happy that I painted a portrait of her.

My new Abstract Painting, "The Red Boat"

I painted this large painting a few months ago, inspired by Picasso's cubist work. I also was inspired by a poem Agustin wrote called "The Red Boat". This painting has a lot of texture too. This image does not compare to the original.
